BACKGROUND :

Before becoming the Universal Coverage Scheme that provides healthcare access to over 48 million Thais across the country via the administration of the National Health Security Office (NHSO) over the last two decades, numerous significant events in history have played a pivotal role in contributing to the historical trajectory of the Thai universal health coverage. It retraces the historical “ingredients” through the context of politics, economy, and social culture dating back to the reign of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) in 1868. The authors of “The Art of Establishing Universal Health Coverage in Thailand from the Past to Present, c.1868-2002” look back at the origins of the country’s public health work to examine the structures, institutions, political processes, economy, and socio-cultural changes that have influenced medical and public health activities through a “historical lens.” The book also highlights the power struggles among different actors and the workings of various sectors that often face situations that require them to “make decisions” and “take certain actions.” These decisions became determining factors shaping the destiny of the subsequent health system. In this book launch event, you will be meeting with the authors of “The Art of Establishing Universal Health Coverage in Thailand from the Past to Present, c.1868-2002”, as well as crucial people who take their footsteps as part of the development of Thailand’s UHC as follows; 1. Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert (TBC) 2. Dr.Jadej Thammatacharee, Secretary-General, NHSO 3. Dr.Napaphat Satchanawakul (Author) (TBC) 4. Dr.Nattanee Satchanawakul (Author) (TBC)
