Purnima Menon is currently Senior Director, Food & Nutrition Policy at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the CGIAR. She oversees three units within IFPRI and the CGIAR Systems Transformation Science Group: Nutrition, Diets, and Health (NDH), Poverty, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI), and Markets, Trade, and Institutions (MTI). Dr. Menon is based in New Delhi, India in her global leadership role for IFPRI. Previously, as senior research fellow at IFPRI, she led research teams who conduct implementation research and evaluations focused on large-scale programs in nutrition, agriculture, gender, technology, and health. She collaborates widely, has published extensively in high-impact journals across disciplines and has co-authored and/or advised major global reports in nutrition and health. In addition to her research, Dr. Menon invests deeply in research translation, advising and working with a wide range of stakeholders on policy, program and investment priorities. She has co-convened a global nutrition policy course and taught national adaptations of this course. She is a founding member of the Next Gen(d)eration Leadership Collective, an initiative to nurture effective leadership practices for a better-nourished world. In 2020, Dr. Menon received the prestigious Nevin Scrimshaw Mid-Career Award in Global Nutrition from the American Society for Nutrition, in recognition of her contributions to the field. Dr. Menon has a Ph.D. in International Nutrition from Cornell University and a M.Sc. in Nutrition from the University of Delhi. She speaks several languages, has research experience in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Ethiopia, Haiti and Vietnam.
