Espen Bjertness is professor of epidemiology at the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oslo, Norway, from 1995. He holds an Honorary Doctoral Degree at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, and received visiting professorship at Tibet University, China, for several periods. He has led projects in capacity building in research and higher education in universities in low income and conflict countries for 30 years, often in cooperation with health ministries. Countries include Palestine, Myanmar, Tibet (China), and North Korea. Espen Bjertness has initiated and participated in several Lancet commissions, including on health conditions in Palestine, the world's indigenous populations, and global governance for health. Research interests include global health, conflict and health injustice.
